Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a chat-based collaboration tool that is part of the Office 365 suite of services. Teams enables local and co-workers to work together and collaborate through a common workspace, using features such as team chat, one-on-one chat and document collaboration.

Teams launched in March 2017 as part of Office 365 and is now available in Office 365 Education as well. Teams competes with collaboration cloud services Slack and HipChat. Unlike its freemium competitors, however, Teams has no free tier and does not offer standalone pricing.

Teams integrates with Microsoft Office as well as a wide variety of other Office 365 services, including SharePoint, Skype for Business and Exchange. The collaboration tool also offers APIs for integration with third-party services such as Google Drive, YouTube and DropBox.

Teams includes the following core capabilities:

Chat: Conversations can be visible to the entire team or be conducted privately. Skype for Business is deeply integrated into the application.

Hub: The hub allows team members to work collaboratively without having to toggle between applications.

Team Customization: Teams offers customizable workspaces and integration with third-party software to facilitate project management.

Security: Teams provides advanced security and compliance capabilities that supports global standards including HIPAA, EU Model Clauses, ISO27001, SOC 1 and SOC 2.
