System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM 2012) is Microsoft's virtualization management product. Several core components make up the foundation for SCVMM's more advanced functionalities: manager server, library server, manager database, administrator console and virtual machine host. With SCVMM 2012, an administrator can configure and manage virtualized environments, including hosts, networking and storage resources. Tasks such as consolidation and conversion of physical machines and rapid provisioning of Azure virtual machines (VMs) can be completed using a central console. Private clouds are often a major focus of SCVMM 2012 deployments. Administrators can create and delegate private clouds to users, who can then use self-service tools to deploy their own VMs. Other features provide administrators with the ability to create Hyper-V clusters and enhanced power management features. System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 supports Citrix XenServer in addition to Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere. SCVMM 2016, which requires Windows Server 2016, brings new functionality in deploying bare-metal servers and converting them to required server roles. Other features include zero touch deployment, a new workflow for adding clusters, no downtime upgrades and production checkpoints management. |
