Data center emergency response 101
Do you know, without question, which systems and data need to be protected in the event of a disaster? Do you know how quickly systems need to be up and running and which data you should recover first? Have a testing plan in place that allows you to assess how your organization would do in the event a disaster or sustained downtime? Even if you can confidently answer ‘yes’ to all of the above questions, it’s likely you’re still only 50% ready to handle any unplanned downtime of IT systems. What about scheduling and performing emergency drills that are scripted to simulate the conditions of a particular event? What about determining characteristics that help in delineating an urgent situation from an actual crisis? What about distributing incident notifications that notify systems, process, and users that an incident has occurred? Or providing a standard method for determining and documenting the root cause of an incident? There’s still so much more to consider. And this whitepaper outlines a methodology - across people, processes, and systems - for effectively responding to all different kinds of risks and crises in today’s data centers.
