A Powerful Mashup – the Exploding Intersection of IoT & Big Data

Download this white paper to learn more about the rapidly evolving world of IoT Analytics

Hello David,

All of us in the IT industry have heard plenty about Big Data and IoT.  The news and technical updates keep coming at a furious pace – and putting it all in high level context is not a trivial endeavor.  Vitria has been working at the intersection of Big Data and IoT for several years and so we have had the benefit of seeing a wide range of applications and use cases.  But even with that somewhat rare experience, we often turn to industry participants and analysts to help us get a better "bird's eye" on where IoT Analytics has been and where it is going.

Sisense co-founder Adi Azaria and Gartner Analyst Emil Berthelsen are two well-known names in the industry and they share some of their perspective in this whitepaper . They offer us all context about the current state of IoT Analytics, Business Intelligence, and Big Data management – and also present some observations about the future of this fast moving set of domains.

The paper covers a wide range of topics, but two of comments caught our attention.  First, with all the technology required to process IoT data, it is easy to forget that the real "beauty" of connected IoT devices is the ability to change behavior based on the data collected and analyzed.  End users can receive instant notifications when critical performance indicators or data changes.  The ability to act-in real-time is often where the real power and business value is gained.

The second point that we feel is critical to understand is that while the intersection of Big Data and IoT is major, the speed of processing of data – and the feeding of it back into execution systems in real-time may be even more significant.  Fast Data and Analytics is changing the nature of digital competition.  The transformation has evolved very quickly from historical insights driving insight over days or weeks to real-time data ingestion and in-stream processing of data in seconds or milliseconds for real-time action.

Read more on their complementary perspectives in the whitepaper. And, as always, please feel free to contact us anytime at iotanalytics@vitria.com.
