Dell Announcement

Among major IT companies, Dell made a significant announcement recently to accelerate their IoT strategy, and it is centered on Cloud, and specifically how edge processing of IoT data will be a major focus.  Dell's moves will help move companies of all sizes faster along their adoption curve.

Cloud, IoT, & Analytics – The Perfect Storm

The quickening action in this space inspired us to create a new blog on this topic – and specifically how Cloud, IoT and Analytics are a perfect storm of self-reinforcing adoption.  See the blog here to learn more about this phenomenon and a round-up of some compelling recent articles.

The Cloud – Intelligent Architectures for IoT

While all this activity is exciting, it is important to think carefully about architecture before jumping too quickly into complex IoT projects.  The volume and velocity of IoT data requires careful planning and in many cases new hybrid edge architectures will be needed.  Siavash Alamouti does a nice job in this article explaining how to think about the performances issues associated with IoT use cases.

And then in this piece in Manufacturing Business Technology, Ziv Paz points out that while the Cloud can obviously help with the huge data volumes of IoT, an intelligent cloud strategy is needed to preserve local resources for performance-centric issues and real-time use cases. Balancing loads to optimize for both historical and real-time analytics is crucial to success.

System Integrators & Solution Providers

And finally, it is also becoming clearer by the day that Solution Providers & System Integrators are starting to take advantage of the cloud for analytics applications, witness this recent announcement from Tech Data.
