deepfake AI

Deepfake AI is a type of artificial intelligence used to create convincing image, audio and video hoaxes. The term, which describes both the technology and the resulting bogus content, is a portmanteau of the terms deep learning and fake.

Deepfake content is created by using two competing AI algorithms -- one is called the generator and the other is called the discriminator. Together, the generator and discriminator form something called a generative adversarial network (GAN).

The generator creates fake multimedia content and asks the discriminator to determine whether the content is authentic. Each time the discriminator accurately identifies content as being fake, it provides the generator with valuable information about how to improve the next deepfake. Continue reading...

Why IT leaders need to be aware of deepfake security risks
While IT security leaders are not yet the target of deepfake attacks, with the increased use of AI, it's important they consider how it can be of harm to the enterprise.

Deepfakes: Security experts undecided on the threat level
Deepfakes may seem like a scary new threat in today's world, but should the world be worried? SearchSecurity asked numerous experts to weigh in at RSA Conference 2020.

Ethical concerns of AI call growing adoption into question
When Hao Li first started working on AI tools to enhance visual effects in videos, he thought the applications would be limited to the entertainment industry. But it didn't take long for him to start seeing the type of applications he built being applied in much different venues.

Applications of generative adversarial networks hold promise
Deepfake technology, and GANs in general, are not inherently malicious or misleading. Their ability to produce something close to a reality can assist in image processing, as well as image analysis and information processing.
