Hey David,
A day doesn't go by without someone asking me what they can do to climb faster.
One of the tips I recommend is to lose any excess weight that they are carrying. It comes down to power to weight ratio, every kilogram of weight you lose saves you between 3 to 5 watts.
It's what I call getting free speed on climbs and it will help you either stop being dropped or power away from your riding companions or competition.
